BLM - Bureau Of Land Management

Bureau of land management (BLM) is a term for government land which is not a park, wilderness area, improved property under another authority, or military reservation. In general terms, BLM land is government land which the government doesn't know what to do with but doesn't want the public to do any thing with it either. As such, BLM land is not heavily regulated, nor is BLM land much improved. Just large sections of raw land.

Wild Horse Acres, located on Highway 395 in the south easterly end of the BLM Susanville District. This BLM district has three campgrounds:

16 North Eagle Lake: has fees, restrooms, water, & trailers.

17 Pit River: restrooms, & trailers.

18 Ramhorn Springs: restrooms, water, & trailers.

At all three campgrounds allow hunting, fishing, and riding. BLM has 1.2 million acres of the old west to play in.

Unlike southern California, northern California is not highly populated. When one studies the southern district BLM lands, one finds that there are many places which are still like the old west. BLM land is government land and not for sale to the general public.

The land that is for sale, is crowded. There are a lot of people living in southern California. California's main population goes from southern California up to the San Francisco, Sacramento line. The size variance between San Francisco and the Bay Area, against the L.A. is one (1) to ten (10). The same is true between Sacramento and San Diego. North of San Francisco and Sacramento, the population goes down. If one takes into account the size of the area, Lassen County's population to land area verses the Bay Area is one thousandth (1/1000). The whole County of Lassen California's population is less than that of a typical small city in the Bay Area like Redwood City.

BLM land pretty much encircles Wild Horse Acres. This land is not advertised or promoted to the general public because it is wild horse land. Wild horses don't do well with people chasing them on motorcycles and the such. So, the government treats this BLM area on a low profile. As well they should.

This is the Northern California BLM Wild Horse Management Corrals. Here is where the government keeps the wild horses ranging on the BLM property of Lassen California. This facility is 3-4 mile south off US Highway 395.

Employees get the wild horses ready for auction. They call it an adoption project. There are rules to the adoption. The Government does not want these horses to end up in a glue factory or dog food. However, a lot end up that way.
